Term 1 Evaluation

I can’t believe term one is almost over already! It has been a great term. It’s amazing to think that it has already been nine weeks since I first started in room 23, my classmates are great and we all encourage each other to strive for excellence. At the moment it feels like the world is spinning at one million kmph and each day is over in a second, I really hope the world can slow down for the rest of the year so it doesn't go too quickly.

I have really enjoyed technicraft. In technicraft I have finished ICT and I am now in woodwork. In ICT we made some really cool blogs and we learnt about heaps of cool sites. We have also done heaps of writing and maths in class. In maths we have been working with co-ordonates and in writing we have been working on reports.
Our inquiry unit this term has been ‘Standing Strong’ and I have really enjoyed learning about people that have helped make a change to the world.

We have done heaps of cool stuff this term, from blogs to school trips and everything in between. My favourite thing this term would have to have been swimming sports. I have been to three different swimming sports... School swimming sports, zone swimming sports, and inter-zone swimming sports. At the school swimming sports I competed in three races and I got two firsts and one second. At the zone swimming sports I competed in seven races and came back with six firsts and one second. At the inter-zone I competed in three races and managed to get one second. I am really happy with all my results.
I am also the female house captain of king and I am really enjoying the responsibilities of being a Muritai School ambassador.

Seeing as this is my last year at Muritai I am going to try and participate in as many activities as possible. My goals for next term include: I would like to improve my number knowledge in maths, I would also like to improve in my writing language.

I have really enjoyed having Mr Eames as my teacher and he always helps me strive for excellence. I can’t wait for next term!

Book review

At the moment I am reading the book "Star Girl" By: Jerry Spinelli. Mr Eames recommended this book to me when I finished "Parvana's journey" (the second book in the Parvana series) when Mr Eames gave me Star Girl I didn't think it looked very interesting but I read it anyway. Turns out the more I read Star Girl the more I enjoy it! So a message from me to you is you really can't judge a book by it's cover!!! Another series of books I am reading are the Cherub series, these are a great series of books and I would recommend the cherub series for children aged 10-17.

Ratings:
Star Girl: 4/5
Cherub series: 5/5

Wow!!! I can’t believe it’s 2010 already! Last year went so fast! It seems just yesterday I was a nervous little year 7 just starting intermediate.

This year I would quite like to focus on my maths and sport, as well as working on other academic areas such as literacy, handwriting and inquiry. My strongest subject is probably my maths but there is always room for improvement. I will try to really push myself academically this year to ready myself for the high school years ahead.

In the ongoing year of 2010 I will try to set high expectations for myself, academically and physically. I would really like to improve my writing and my maths, I will start to explore and edit my writing as I go and will try to use more adjectives, adverbs, similes, metaphors, etc. I will push myself in my maths and I will try to use different methods to solve equations. I hope to participate in many sporting opportunities throughout the year. I am hoping to get at least one 1st at the school swimming sports and i would like to reach my goal of coming 3rd or 4th in the school cross country. I love high jump (athletics) and if we end up doing the zone athletics i would quite like to make the top 5 girls. To reach most of my sporting goals I will train hard, put in 100% effort and I will try my hardest.

Even though I’ve only had Mr Eames for 2 full days I am already really enjoying having him as a teacher. This year I’m going to try really hard in and out of the classroom to try and make this year great for me and the people around me.

On Friday 19th February the Strike percussion group came and performed at Muritai school, capturing the heart and ears of many young ones.
Strike is a high energy percussion group made up of 3 people. The group was created (founded) in 1993. The Strike group uses lots of different percussion intruments such as drums, giant symbols, drink cans, etc. “Strike” is a mixed translation of the word percussion. A percussion instrument is an instrument that makes a sound when it vibrates. Normally the instrument (item) is made to vibrate from someone hitting, moving or shaking it.
The Strike performance was energetic and loud, the performers moved around the stage keeping all children (and adults) of all ages interested at all times. Mia Harry quoted: I found the noise amazing as it echoed in the school hall. Some other people used the words: Loud, fun, energetic, variety, amazing, exciting and interesting to describe the show.
By the end of the show everyone was ready to stand up off the hard floor and soak up the sun outside, although, I think most will agree the Strike performance was one to remember.
